Sometimes the fear catches me and I cannot breathe.
Sometimes I think: “What have I done? What am I doing? Where am I going? What am I thinking?”
And then there are storms like these that make me feel that I have a place in the world.

Here’s a little poem I wrote today:

Be happy for your young, strong bones…
for your shining face and your glittering eyes…

I watched a shell on the ocean today
What once housed a vibrant life is now only an empty vessel,
A traveling piece of dead skin.
The waves tossed her high up in the air,
And brought her down to the depths of the ocean
And still she goes, intact,
unbreaking in spite of the trauma.

The shoreline glows in the light of the sunset.
Thousands of broken shells reflect the giver of life.
And I reach down and pick up the last unbroken shell…
